TD-SCDMA Update

- At the first China-Korea TD-SCDMA Summit held on December 16, 2007, Korean telecom operator SK Telecom announced that the company, together with Datang Mobile, has made a major breakthrough in the interoperability testing between China's homegrown TD-SCDMA standard and WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) and WiBro (Wireless Broadband) technologies, according to a report by Chinese-language Sina News. Several 3G multimedia services were migrated to the TD-SCDMA trial network during the testing, which was recently conducted in Seoul, Korea.

Moreover, SK Telecom and Datang Mobile agreed to further their cooperation on developing 3G applications. SK Telecom's first TD-SCDMA devices are expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2008, according to the same report.

- According to a press release by Trolltech, a Norway-based Linux developer, ZTE will incorporate Trolltech's Qtopia Phone Edition - application platform and user interface tailor-made for Linux-based mobile phones - into ZTE's new U980 Smartphone platform, designed specifically for China's TD-SCDMA standard. Smartphones based on the U980 platform are expected to be sold via China Mobile's distribution network.
